March events for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County include an online, live webinar; book club meeting; family and caregiver support group, and educational courses for family, caregivers and friends, and individuals living with a mental illness.
NAMI will host a “Finding a Provider” live webinar Wednesday, March 15 from 2:30-4 p.m. as part of their March Education Series. Derek Lee, chief executive officer at The Hope Institute & Perrysburg Counseling Services LLC, will discuss information related to finding a provider including the difference between a psychiatrist and therapist, social work vs. clinical counseling, barriers to finding a provider and more. The next NAMI Family-to-Family educational course for family members, caregivers and friends of individuals living with mental illness, begins Monday, March 20 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Register at the NAMI website.
The book club meeting is Tuesday, March 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. The club is reading “You are NOT Alone: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Mental Health.” The book that is published by NAMI includes over 130 people, from caregivers to people with mental illness, who understand the challenges of finding help. Also on March 21, NAMI will host the next Peer-to-Peer educational course for individuals living with a mental illness. The sessions are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
NAMI Family and Caregiver Support Group continues meeting on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 2-3:30 p.m. The support group is a peer-led support group for family members, parents and caregivers of loved ones living with mental illness.
Volunteer opportunities are also available at the Wood County office, including getting involved as a support group or class facilitator, or office volunteer.
