New numbers – County reports 389 new COVID cases over Christmas holiday

Updated numbers have been reported on Wood County’s COVID numbers over the Christmas holiday. The county saw 389 new COVID cases since Dec. 23.

Wood County is now up to 8,033 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Monday, Dec. 28, update from the Wood County Health Department. 

The number of active COVID cases in the county is now 318, which is 29 fewer than on last Wednesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

A total of 445 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with 18 more being hospitalized since Christmas Eve. 

The county has recorded a total of 143 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, four were in their 50s, 14 were in their 60s, 29 in their 70s, 58 in their 80s, and 34 in their 90s, and one in her 100s. 

Of the total 8,033 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 4,161 were female, and 3,872 were male. 

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
