Bowling Green non-profit organizations are again being offered a chance to get grant funding for their programs that serve the community.
The Bowling Green Community Foundation, a non-profit entity, exists to improve the quality of life in the Bowling Green area by providing funding and support for diverse and innovative programs that enhance the health, welfare and vitality of the community.
Private contributions are the sole support of the foundation.
The foundation achieves its purpose through its grant program. At the end of each calendar year, and after careful evaluation of the applications submitted to the foundation, the grants committee distributes funds to be used the following year.
Its selections may include proposals written for educational or sports activities, health or safety initiatives, environmental sustainability, as well as for the visual or performing arts.
In the past couple years, grants have been awarded to help groups like the Brown Bag Project to buy a commercial size refrigerator for the food pantry, to help the Black Swamp Players buy seating for its new theater site, to support a hockey tournament for athletes with disabilities, to help the Cocoon buy new shelter mattresses and bedding, and to help the Bicycle Safety Commission put more bike racks around the community – among many other programs.
Grants are made to non-profit organizations that are located in the 43402 and 43403 ZIP code and school district areas. The foundation does not make grants to individuals except through scholarship funds established specifically for that purpose.
The annual grants range from $500 to $5,000. Any organizations with questions may contact the foundation at bgcf@bgohcf.org. Grant applications for 2022 are open through Oct. 15.
