The Ohio House of Representatives has passed legislation to create two new Ohio specialty license plates. Sponsored by Reps. Steven Arndt (R-Port Clinton) and Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green), House Bill 76 creates the following:

“Ohio National Guard Ohio Cross” license plate – This plate would be available to anyone who has been awarded the Ohio National Guard Ohio Cross Medal, which is granted to service members of the Ohio National Guard who exude voluntary acts of courage and are above and beyond the call of duty. It contains an illustration of the Ohio National Guard Ohio Cross and features the words, “Ohio Cross Medal Recipient.”

“Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge” license plate – Available to all applicants, this license plate is designed by representatives of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Part of the proceeds collected from the plates will be used for wildlife preservation purposes.

“It was a privilege and an honor to sponsor this legislation with Representative Gavarone,” said State Representative Steve Arndt. “The Ohio National Guard Ohio Cross award is only given to a select few—military service members who have performed an act of extraordinary bravery while on the job. With the continued efforts of my constituent, Chief Jody Hatfield, his service and the service of other brave men and women will be recognized here in Ohio.”

“I appreciate Shirley Haar reaching out to me to try to get something done for the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge,” Gavarone said. “This is just another example of how engaged my constituents are within their communities and I am proud to have their dedication recognized on the House floor.”

House Bill 76 now awaits consideration by the Ohio Senate.
