Ohio State University Extension, Wood County is offering a free program that brings fathers and their child (ages 10-16) together around a grill to learn basic nutrition, food safety and other life skills that can strengthen their relationships. This program is a research project with Ohio State University and OSU Extension in Wood County. They need your help to provide input on an educational program called weGrill designed to help fathers and father-figures and their teenage child be healthy
As a research participant, you’ll be asked to participate in a series of workshops around food grilling and family time. You’ll be asked about how fathers and father-figures can best enhance relationships with their teens and about healthy eating and food grilling. Teens will be asked about the characteristics they need to be successful in the future. This is a non-invasive study.
WeGrill program consists of eight sessions. At each session fathers and youth learn about food safety and nutrition and have the opportunity to grill a healthy meal together. Once the food is done families gather around tables to enjoy their meal together. This is the second, and final series offered in 2018. Current participants have stated, “this is a great program for my child and I’m so happy this program is offered in Wood County.” Youth have said, “I really enjoy the cooking, and spending time with my dad. I have tried foods I have never tried before!”
