Perrysburg Mayor Tom Mackin was sworn in Friday as the 2024 chair of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) Board of Trustees.

Northwood Mayor Edward Schimmel will serve as vice chair of the board. The two were elected by the full TMACOG General Assembly in January.

TMACOG leaders help set regional priorities and policies that advance the organization’s strategic goals, which focus on convening partners to improve transportation, water quality, economic development, and other quality of life issues across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

Mackin is currently serving his second term as mayor of Perrysburg. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Muskingum College and is an honor graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law. Mackin was in private practice for 25 years until 2015, when he joined Lucas Metropolitan Housing as its chief legal officer. He is a member of the Ohio, Toledo, and American Bar Associations.

Schimmel recently began his third term as mayor of Northwood. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a law degree from the University of Toledo. Schimmel has been an attorney in private practice for just over 20 years.

“I look forward to serving our community in this new role and working alongside our dedicated members to advance the mission of TMACOG,” Mackin said. “It takes a collaborative effort to move our region forward with safe transportation, clean water, and better air quality for our future generations.”
