Phyllis Ada Carey

Phyllis Ada Carey, 88, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016.

Phyllis was born on January 25, 1928 in Howland, Maine, to the late Ivory and Ethel (Coombs) Carey.

Phyllis graduated from Pinkerton Academy in New Hampshire and from Ohio Northern University. Phyllis was a homemaker and also worked at Dillards Department Store. Phyllis was a very involved member of the Grand Rapids United Methodist Church and was one of their prayer warriors. She enjoyed making costumes and doll clothes as well as knitting and being a seamstress. Phyllis was also known for her beautiful singing voice.  Phyllis loved being outdoors, especially taking hikes as well as going to Tim Hortons and Dunkin Doughnuts with her grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters: Kathy (Tom) Kelly of Seattle, Washington; Penny (Jeff) Sweinhagen of Grand Rapids; Sarah (Dave) Taube of Grand Rapids; sons: Chuck (Sandy) Mills of Grand Rapids; Matt (Cindy) Mills of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: John, Chris, Keely, David, Ben, Sarah, Matt, Wendy, Courtney and Shelby along with three great grandchildren; sisters: Mary Giroux of Zephyrhills, Florida; Ginny (Ronnie) Boyle of Derry, New Hampshire and a brother:  Rogie (Irene) Carey, of Cole Brook, New Hampshire.

Along with her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sisters: Avis Hammon and Maizie Moynihan and brothers: Don and Arther Carey.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of her Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon in the WRIGHT-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME,  24084 W. Second Street, Grand Rapids, Ohio, 43522, Tele: 419-832-2511.  Interment will immediately follow in the Tontogany Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in Phyllis’ memory may be given to the Cocoon Shelter, P.O. Box 1165, Bowling Green, Ohio.
