Public asked for input on historic Roche de Boeuf bridge

The Ohio Department of Transportation will host an open house public meeting to explore options to address safety concerns with the Roche de Boeuf Interurban Bridge over the Maumee River. The meeting will be held on Nov. 20, at the Waterville Primary School, located at 457 Sycamore Lane, Waterville, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a presentation at 5:15 pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to explain the overall project, discuss the alternatives developed, to receive your comments, and answer your questions. ODOT has conducted a study of various alternatives to address this deficient historic bridge and needs your comments to help chose which alternative will move forward.

The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and any alternative will likely have an adverse effect on the historic bridge, even rehabilitation. Coordination about the project is ongoing with and the State Historic Preservation Office. ODOT and the Federal Highway Administration are also actively coordinating with several Native American Tribes who have an interest in the bridge and the Roche de Boeuf Island.

The meeting will be held in an ‘open house’ format to allow participants to review the material at their own pace and talk with representatives from the project management team after the presentation about the project at 5:15 p.m.

All materials to be presented and handed out at the public meeting will be available at the following website: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D02/Pages/Roche-De-Boeuf-Interurban.aspx  There is also a comment submittal form on the website and additional information.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability.  Individuals who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or people who require translation services or sign language interpreters should contact ODOT at least 15 calendar days prior to the public meeting.

If there are any questions or comments about this project or the public meeting please contact ODOT at the office address (317 E. Poe Road, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402), the website in the paragraph above, at 419-373-4319, or by email at Stacy.Schimmoeller@dot.ohio.gov . Please submit comments on or before Dec. 20, 2019.
