Deacon Ramon Llanas, 81, peacefully passed away, with this family by his side on Sunday, August, 27, 2023. His life was a testament to unwavering love and boundless compassion.
Born on December 15, 1941, to the late Gavino and Jacoba (Flores) Llanas. His love story with Victoria Gonzales began on May 17, 1961, as they exchanged vows in the hallowed halls of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green. Though Victoria’s passing on November 27, 2009, left a void, Ray’s legacy of love continued through his enduring children: Ramon (Nancy) Llanas Jr., Victor (Teresa) Llanas, Esteban (Jodi) Llanas, Yvette Marie (Kevin) Llanas, and Delia (Steven) Llanas-Ware. His presence will forever grace the lives of his twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Ray was also a beloved sibling, surviving alongside Gavino Lllanas Jr., Arturo Llanas, Mary Ellen Schmidbauer, and Linda Cumpian. His passing was preceded by his dear siblings: Anita Castillo and Janie Fonseca.
Ray worked for Henry Filters spanned 48 years, a testament to his unwavering work ethic. His profound faith guided him to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon in May of 1991. Within those sacred walls, Ray’s heart overflowed with devotion. He united couples in marriage, welcomed the newest members of the faith through baptisms, and shared in the sorrows of farewells during funerals. His teaching touched countless lives through marriage encounter classes and Hispanic Bible Study groups. Ray’s kindness knew no bounds; he extended his care to migrant workers through the Spanish Ministry Outreach and the Cursillo group movement. As a Knight of Columbus, his service to others knew no limits.
Outside his church duties, Ray embraced life’s simple joys. In the winter months, he travelled to Las Vegas to be with his daughter Delia. He reveled in the camaraderie of golf rounds and friendly pool games, embracing the joy found in each moment.
Ray’s presence was a reflection of respect, hard work, and profound love. His nurturing care encompassed everyone he met, but it was within his family that his heart truly blossomed. His grandchildren held a special place, their laughter and dreams becoming the tapestry of his life.
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember the love that defined Ray’s existence. His legacy is not in sorrow but in the enduring love he shared and the compassion he bestowed upon all. In our hearts, his spirit lives on, an eternal reminder of the power of love and the beauty of a life well-lived.
The Catholic funeral rites for Deacon Ramon Llanas will begin with the Rite of Reception of the Body in St. Aloysuis Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St., Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 4:00 PM where visitation will follow until 7:00 pm where a Vigil Service will be held. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysuis Catholic Church with the Most Reverend Daniel Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, as celebrant. Ray will be reunited with his loving wife Victoria in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
