Wade Reuben King, 43, of Cygnet, Ohio passed away on August 26, 2016. Reuben was born on June 2, 1973 in Fremont, Ohio to James and Helen King. He grew up in Luckey, Ohio and attended Eastwood High School, graduating in 1992. He married Jennica Alvarez on June 15, 2002 in Walbridge, Ohio. Reuben attended Owens College in Toledo, Ohio where he received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Alternative Energy/Sustainable Technology.
If you were one of the lucky ones to have known Reuben, then you know that he can’t be described in just a few words or phrases. He was a friend, son, brother, uncle, husband, and father. As a friend, he was loyal, trustworthy, and so deeply considerate of your feelings. He loved you like you were his brother or sister and treated you like one, too. If you were one of his childhood friends, there isn’t a memory that you have from your youth that doesn’t have Reuben in it.
One of nine sons, he added just a little more excitement to mom and dad’s ever growing family. Being the tenth child of fourteen children really kept mom and dad busy. He was so close in age with Troy and Jay that they were inseparable. They did everything together. Mom and dad even started calling them the “three little boys” instead of by their names. When Glen and Buddy came along, the “the three little boys” became known as the “the boys.” When Reuben was old enough, he worked alongside his brothers and dad in the family business which continued all through his life. He was such a great help to mom and dad but also he was a great comfort to mom when she was still here with us. Anything mom would ask of Reuben, he would try to do his best to make mom happy. As a brother, he was a constant protector of his sisters and best friend to his brothers. If he thought for one second that he had upset you in any way, he wouldn’t let a day go by before he would call and make sure you knew that he loved you. He was really sensitive in that way. He was a lover of all animals, too. He drove mom and dad crazy with all the animals he would bring home from caymans, ferrets, raccoons, snakes, and dogs. He could not even bring himself to hurt a bug, much less hunt. He would say he was going out to hunt but he loved animals too much. He once said, “I would love to shoot a deer….with a camera.” His favorite animals were his dogs, though. It started with his first dog, Sage, that he got when he was in high school and his love never stopped. He still has descendants from Sage, today.
Being a husband and father was truly Reuben’s purpose in life though. He knew immediately that when he met Jennica when she was a freshman and he was a junior that they eventually would marry. People close to them have watched their love blossom and grow for almost 30 years starting as high school sweethearts and turning into parents of three amazing children. Jennica, you were Reuben’s love of his life. He was the happiest when he was with you and the kids. You’ve made it through thick and thin, together, and his journey will continue through your children.
Sophia, your papa absolutely adored you and said at least a million times that you were his little sweetheart. You have turned into such a beautiful young lady on the inside as well as the outside. He couldn’t be any more proud of you.
Graycen, you are a true reflection of your papa. You look just like him when he was your age. We are so thankful that every time we look at you, we will always have a handsome reminder of your papa. Always remember that you will forever be his “little man.”
Emry, you too are a beautiful reminder of your papa. You have his big blue eyes and blonde hair. He was absolutely overjoyed when he found out that Sophia and Graycen were going to have a baby sister. He couldn’t wait to tell everyone the news. You entering this world was one of the happiest days of his life.
The loss of Reuben is going to be so difficult for everyone who knew him because he was that special and meant so much too so many. It’s impossible to describe everything that we will miss about him but he had a wink he gave when you looked at him, which was usually accompanied with a smirk, and he had an unmistakable laughter that would just fill the room. There is great comfort in knowing that Reuben was saved and knew our Lord. What a great memory Reuben left for us the day he was baptized in the river. He was a strong role model then and will continue to be for all who knew him.
