Richard J. (Dick) Adler, 95, passed away July 29. He was born in Custar, Ohio to Matt and Marguerite (Campbell) Adler on June 19, 1929. Richard graduated from Liberty High School in 1947 and served in the U. S. Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic during the Korean War.
He met the love of his life on a blind date and married Theresa Portanova on August 28, 1954. They were inseparable for 55 years until she passed in 2009.
Richard spent his life as a farmer and proudly worked the same land his father had. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he had been a councilman and usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was formerly on the MidWood Board of Directors and a member of Farm Bureau, as well as Card Club. Always the comedienne, he enjoyed a good joke as well as crossword and sudoku puzzles. He rarely missed morning coffee with area friends at local restaurants.
Survivors include daughters Lisa (Kevin) Ackerman, Onsted, MI, Karen (Dan) Wickard, Bowling Green, grandchildren Abbie (Chris) Chen, Oakland CA, Adam (Nicola) Ackerman, Ypsilanti, MI, Matt (Lauren) Wickard, Olney, MD, and Drew (Jess) Wickard, Orofino, ID, great grandchildren Anderson and Keilani Ackerman, Mason and Lyla Wickard, Raegan and Ruby Wickard, and Gabi Chen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Theresa, siblings Irene (Norm)Swartz, North Baltimore, Helen (Jim)Wensink, Florida, Joanne (Darrel) Mills, Bowling Green, and Bob (Leanna) Adler, Rudolph.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice of Findlay or a charity of the donor’s choice.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home located in the Historical District of Bowling Green, Ohio at 408 W. Wooster St.
