Rick Swartz

Rick S Swartz, 76, of Bowling Green, passed away surrounded by his family, on Thursday, March 13, 2025. He was born on September 29, 1948, in Cygnet, Ohio, to the late Roy S. and Lucille W. (Hoffman) Swartz.  He married the love of his life, Peg (Schmidutz), on June 12, 1970, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Rick is survived his children: Liza Swartz, Eric (Amber) Swartz, Keith Swartz, and Tim Swartz; grandchildren Aria, Lucas, Emily, Kenzie, Maddie, Kami, Aniah, Bella, Troy, Tristen, Trent; and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Brian Swartz and Darla (Lowell) Ritchey.

Rick was a 1966 graduate of Fostoria High School and went on to earn an Associates Degree from The Ohio State University.  He worked for National Machinery for 24 years, and then started his own construction company, Swartz Design LLC, which he ran for 15 years.  He specialized in home design and construction, and continued to design homes even after his retirement.  He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, serving as both an advisor and assisting with construction. “Rockin Rick” was also a longtime DJ, with Peggy Sue by his side.  He loved to play poker with his family, and enjoyed camping, casinos, and was an avid Buckeye fan.  Rick was also a lifelong tennis and ping pong player.  Above all, Rick loved spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.

Rick will be remembered for his kind, generous, and humorous personality.  He never knew a stranger!  Throughout his life, Rick had a passion of help anyone that he could, especially family members, with his love of carpentry and building. 

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 10:00AM until the time of a funeral service at 12:00PM, at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 West Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio, 43402. Donations in Rick’s memory may be shared with Habitat for Humanity, 326 Industrial Parkway, Bowling Green, Ohio, 43402.
