Robert L Fortney

Robert L. Fortney, a lifelong resident of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio at the age of 84. He was born on March 19, 1933 in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Clay and Leonilla Fortney. He graduated from Bowling Green High School and was a long time member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

Robert was married to his best friend Mary (Avery) for 65 years and she survives. Together they have four children: Sandra (Alex) Koepfler of Maumee Ohio, Richard Fortney of Toledo Ohio, Cindy (Steven) Puffer of Bowling Green, Ohio and Susan Fortney of Hilo, Hawaii. Robert was blessed with grandchildren: Chad, Jeff and Benn Koeplfer, Brian and Andrew Puffer, Shawn and Ashley Lorch and Samantha Fortney along with eight great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene, Richard and Ralph, and sisters Winnifred, Evangeline and Juanita. Robert had a long career in construction and later owned his own contracting business, Fortney Construction. He was an active member of Bowling Green Country Club and the Maumee-Bowling Green Elk’s Lodge. Robert enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Round Lake and after retirement in their winter home in Sun City West, Arizona. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, visiting casinos and spending time with close friends and family.

The family will receive guests on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Dunn Funeral Home, 408 W. Wooster St. in Bowling Green, Ohio. A rosary service will begin Monday evening at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. in Bowling Green, Ohio. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green.
