Ronald D Amos

Ronald David Amos, 78, of Portage, Ohio passed away Friday May 17, 2019. He was born July 31, 1940 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Melvin and Ardella (Fogle) Amos. He married Kay Myers on December 1, 1961 and she preceded him in death January 14, 2012.

Ron was a dedicated firefighter, devoting 65 years of his life to fire service. He started his career in fire service with the Portage Volunteer Fire Department. He was a founding member of the Central Joint Fire Department where he formerly served as Assistant Fire Chief. He always enjoyed and took pride in taking the new fire fighters under his wing. He worked as an Operating Engineer for the Local 18. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his daughter Regina Amos of Wannaska, Minnesota, son Melvin “Mel” Amos of Portage, Ohio, brother Terry (Sally) Amos of Portage, Ohio and grandchildren Amanda, Victor, Hunter and Ryley. 

He was preceded in death by his sister Madelyn Amos and son-in-law Arly Loken. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday May 23, 2019 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. The Central Joint Fire Department will conduct a Fireman’s Last Alarm Service Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Ron’s funeral service will be held Friday May 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 301 West Main St. Portage, Ohio 43451. 

Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Central Joint Firefighters Association.
