Perrysburg service clubs to partner to ‘Build Beds for Kids’

From PERRYSBURG ROTARY CLUB

There are children in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan that have no bed to sleep in and are forced to sleep on floors or couches. To help solve this problem, the Perrysburg High School Interact Club and Perrysburg Rotary Club are teaming together with their third annual Build Beds for Kids service project.

The Build Beds event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Perrysburg Board of Education Commodore lawn, 102 E. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg. The public is invited to participate in the build, and if possible, to donate sets of new twin bedsheets.

The Perrysburg High School Interact club is a youth service organization of nearly 50 students led by PHS teacher Terri Camp, Interact director, and is sponsored by the Perrysburg Rotary Club. In 2025, the Interact Club became the first recipient of the Make a Difference community service grant to support its Build Beds project. The grant was provided through ServeOhio, the Ohio Commission on Service & Volunteerism.

The event is coordinated by Let’s Build Beds, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to build and deliver beds to children in need. All tools, supplies, and materials will be provided. Over the past eight years, Let’s Build Beds has built and delivered more than 5,000 beds for children.

“This is a great opportunity for our club members to work alongside Interact students in a service project that benefits children in need,” said Susan Nelson, Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation vice chair. “It is wonderful that our club is able to sponsor the Interact Club and to support these high school students who have taken an interest in Rotary’s mission of serving others.”

In addition to sponsoring the Interact Club, the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation has partnered with the Perrysburg Schools Foundation to offer two $1,000 scholarships each year to graduating seniors who have demonstrated active involvement in the Interact Club.
