Ruth ‘Ruthie’ Adell Godfrey

Ruth “Ruthie” Adell Godfrey, age 92, passed away peacefully at the Parkcliffe Community on April 6, 2017. She was born December 23, 1924 in Perrysburg, Ohio to Gladys & James Laing and was one of 5 children.

Ruth graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1942 and went on to study music at Western College in Oxford, OH. Her appreciation of music continued throughout life, singing in church and community choirs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toledo and later, St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns. Ruth also had a love of nature and children leading her to a long involvement with both the Boy and Girl Scouts. There were also many trips to Canada and rock hunting that often required you to “lick the rock” to see the beautiful colors.

Ruth married Ralph Warren Godfrey in Georgia October 30, 1946. She and her husband opened the Hi-Level Country Store in 1966, at the foot of the Hi-Level Bridge in Toledo, OH. It was the first store in Ohio to be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Later in life she worked at Photonics in Northwood, OH for 20 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, sister Janie and brothers Eddie and Malcolm. Ruth is survived by her 5 children Geof (Karen) Godfrey, Tara(Peter) Pinello, Marki (Larry) Sawyer, Brandt (Eva) Godfrey, and Vann Godfrey, 9 grandchildren, Raegan (John Walz) Sawyer, Laura (Jeff) Newman, Micah (Kelly) Sawyer, Christie (Ben) Childs, Joel (Sonya) Sawyer, PJ Pinello, Jarred Godfrey, Michael Pinello and Keegan Sawyer, and 5 great grandchildren, Elsa, Aria, Aisley, Emmett and Gabe, and her sister Carol Melvin.

Visitation will begin Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 12noon at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Homes, 6603 Providence St., Whitehouse, OH. In lieu of flowers memorials for Ruth can be directed to The Ronald McDonald House-Charities of the Huron Valley, 1600 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, to continue to honor her love or children and the idea of families staying close while healing.
