Senior Center movie series continue through May

From  WOOD COUNTY COMMITTEE ON AGING 

The Wood County Committee on Aging continues its weekly film series through May.

The 1 p.m. movie matinees at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St. 

The Wednesday series focuses on romance and romantic comedy movies.

The schedule is:

“Momma Mia” (2008), May 1, stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Amanda Seyfried in a full-

blown musical with dancing, and romantic conflict.

 “You’ve Got Mail” (1998), May 8, features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan representing both the little and big ends of the book-selling industry with humorous but predictable results.

“Save the Last Dance for Me” (2001), May 15, is a romance starring Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas that focuses on how opposites attract and then must find ways to resolve differences.

“Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), May 22, “ features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in a set-up romance created by Hank’s son who wants his dad to find a partner.

 “Serendipity” (2001), May 29,  starring John Kusack and Kate Beckinsale,  is the story of two individuals who meet, lose track of one another, and then spend years trying to reunite with each other.

Thursday Theater is hosted by Kris Eridon.

The Thursday schedule is:

 “To Catch a Thief”, May 2, a 1955 omantic thriller starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, as a retired jewel thief works to prove his innocence.

 “A Royal Night Out”, May 9, a 2015 semi-historical romantic drama starring Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley. Set on VE Day in 1945, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret ditch their security detail and enjoy a celebratory night of freedom, excitement, and danger in London.

“Colossus: The Forbin Project,’ May 16,  a 1970 sci-fi thriller starring Eric Braeden and Susan Clark. It’s a chilling warning about turning too much control over to supercomputers and A.I.

 “Roman Holiday”, May 23,  the 1953 romance which launched Audrey Hepburn’s career (Best Actress winner), also starring Gregory Peck. A bored princess escapes her guardians and finds romance in Rome.

“Darkest Hour,” May 30,, the 2017 historical drama portraying how Churchill orchestrated the Miracle of Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4, 1940. Gary Oldman (Best actor) stars as Churchill and Lily James as his assistant.

The Friday “How about a Movie?” series gives movie lovers a chance to view and discuss seldom-seen classic motion pictures.

Movies will be of all genres including war, westerns, drama, action, adventure, comedy, film noir, science-fiction, documentary, romance, crime, seasonal, and musicals, from the golden age of Hollywood 1930 -1990.

May focuses on the work of Cliff Robertson.

The Friday schedule is:

 “PT 109,” May 3, a 1963 biography/drama) with Robertson, Robert Culp, Ty Hardin.

 “The Girl Most Likely,” May 10, a 1957 musical comedy with Jane Powell, Robertson, Keith Andes.

 “The Best Man,” May 17, a 1964 drama with Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Edie Adams.

Friday, , 2024 “Man Without a Country,” May 24, a 1973 adventure drama with Robertson, Beau Bridges, Peter Strauss.

“Picnic,” May 31, 1955 drama with  William Holden, Kim Novak, Betty Field, Robertson.
