Sheriff’s Office and BGSU men’s basketball team to help local families with Christmas Spectacular project

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be kicking off a new project called Christmas Spectacular. This event was brought to the office from partnerships with The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office out of Michigan and extended to include Wood County as well as the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with the BGSU Men’s Basketball team in their project and will be surprising recipients by delivering pre-packaged boxes that include toys and household items to families throughout all of Wood County who may be in need.

“We were approached by our friends Sheriff Swanson and Major Gould from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office about this project they have been conducting for a few years now, and they asked us and the Sandusky County Sheriff if we would like to spread this Christmas Spectacular to our own communities here in Ohio,” Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said.

“We agreed that we would be honored to expand on their initiative and bring it to Wood County. We have families who may be struggling, and having the opportunity to show our citizens that our office isn’t only caring for them in time of tragedy, or turmoil – but randomly giving them a blessing before the holidays that may help them, will be so impactful on our deputies to give back,” Wasylyshyn said. “We are appreciative of the agencies that provided us with lists of families who are in need and we are excited to partner with the young men and entire staff of the BGSU Men’s Basketball program.”
