Sheriff’s Office gets calls about scam targeting medical professionals

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has had several reports of a phone scam today, Wednesday, Oct. 24. The scam involves “Deputy Jason Walker” of the sheriff’s office, calling and threatening people that they have missed their jury duty. They are being told to get in their vehicles and drive to the sheriff’s office and pay the deputy to avoid the embarrassment of showing up and being escorted in handcuffs.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will never call and request payment of any kind. This current reported scam seems to be targeting those in the medical profession.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up. If you have received a call like this and have given personal information to the caller, please call 419-354-9001 to report the incident.
