Thursday the Ohio Senate gave final passage to Sierah’s Law, legislation sponsored by Senator Randy Gardner, R-Bowling Green, to establish a statewide violent offender database and provide citizens enhanced public access to information to help keep their families safe.
“The legislature has spoken,” Gardner said. “We are closer to helping both law enforcement and the public to have better information toward a safer Ohio.”
“Sierah Joughin’s life was all about helping others. Now Sierah’s Law can help all of Ohio.”
Gardner especially credited Sierah’s family for their support and perseverance, and thanked Attorney General Mike DeWine for his leadership in endorsing the bill.
“Mike DeWine and his staff were with us every step of the way,” Gardner said on the Senate floor.
The strong bipartisan vote (24-3) enables the bill to be sent to the governor’s desk for his signature.
