BGSU will host “Spider-Man in Popular Culture Conference” Friday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to 7:50 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 7:55 p.m. from with speakers from around the country.
Proceedings will be held Pallister Conference Room on the first floor of Jerome Library. The conference is free.
Spider-Man is a complex, enigmatic, and tragically appealing crime-fighter who has conquered all forms of mass media and popular culture. The conference will celebrate, discuss, and debate the cultural significance of Spider-Man and his impact upon comics, mass media, and society at large.
Bruce Wechtenhiser, world-renowned Spider-Man collector, will deliver a visual storytelling presentation, “Spidey and Me: Over 50 Years of Connecting and Collecting,” Friday, 11:15 a.m. to noon.
Wechtenhiser’s stories of his “Spidey experiences” and his collection have been featured in various media and at many comic book conventions.
Living in the hometown of Steve Ditko (co-creator of Spider-Man) is just one of many amazing lifelong “Spidey experiences.” which you may find hard to believe all happened Experience his emotional connections to the character as he tells stories (including his interactions with Spider-Man creators Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and John Romita), projects visuals on a large screen, and shows rare items.
