Take a walk and read a story at the same time in Wintergarden

Looking for something fun and relaxing to do with your children before school starts? Take a walk at Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve for some quality family time.

You still have a chance to read two children’s stories before summer’s end. The Black Swamp Conservancy selected the nature preserve as one of several host locations for stories funded by a grant from the Seed-to-the-Sower fund of the Toledo Community Foundation.

The program is based on the StoryWalk Program, which promotes literacy, physical activity and community involvement. A book is taken apart and mounted on panels that are posted along a walking trail or path.

“A Nest is Noisy,” by Dianna Hutts Aston will be found in the preserve until Aug. 13. The story trail begins in the center of the preserve and proceeds past the observation platform and into St. John’s Woods.

“Over and Under the Pond,” by Kate Messner will be placed in the preserve from Aug. 16 to Sept. 15. This story will start at the northern most entrance to Tucker Woods and proceed to end at the pond.
