Bowling Green Police arrested a Texas man early Sunday morning for reportedly stealing items out of multiple vehicles in the city.
Police received a call around 1:30 a.m., of a male trying to open car doors in the 100 block of East Court Street. He was last seen by the caller walking northbound on North Main Street near East Court Street.
An officer spotted a man matching the description in the area, carrying a coat, small bag, shirt and shorts. The man, Jacolby Hamilton, 30, said the items were his, and the officer had no witnesses or victims, so Hamilton was allowed to leave.
Shortly after, another officer observed a man appearing to be upset, looking through a vehicle downtown. The officer spoke with the owner of the car, who said her small black bag with personal items inside was missing from her car.
The first officer relocated Hamilton walking southbound in the 300 block of North Prospect Street, then reportedly saw him enter the front passenger seat of a car.
Police detained Hamilton, and the woman came to the location and identified her bag, along with her driver’s license and other personal items in Hamilton’s vehicle.
Other officers observed more vehicles that had the center consoles left open and appeared that someone had searched through them. BGPD Dispatch was able to contact owners of some of the vehicles. One said a coat was missing from his car, and was able to identify a coat, shirt and shorts in Hamilton’s car as belonging to him.
Hamilton was arrested for two counts of theft and four counts of criminal mischief. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
