This is how Ohio and Wood County voted in primary election

Statewide Gov. Mike DeWine defeated a trio of challengers easily with 48.1 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary.

Jim Renacci had 28 percent, Joe Blystone, 22 percent, and Ron Hood 2 percent.

On the Democratic side, Nan Whaley, former mayor of Dayton, handily defeated former Cincinnati mayor John Cranley, 65-35 percent.

In the race for U.S. Senate, J.D. Vance topped a crowded field vying to replace Republican Rob Portman, who did not seek re-election.

Vance had 32.2 percent of the vote over Josh Mandel, 24 percent, Matt Dolan, 23 percent, Mike Gibbons 11.7 percent, and Jane Timken, 6 percent.

On the Democratic ballot U.S. Rep Tim Ryan had 70 percent over the vote defeating Morgan Harper and Traci Johnson.

In the U.S. House Fifth District, Craig Swartz won with 55 percent over Martin Heberling with 45 percent.

Incumbent Bob Latta was running unopposed.

In the U.S. House Ninth District, J.R. Majewski had a lead with 358 percent of the vote, on the strength of a strong showing in Lucas County, over Craig Riedel, 30.5 percent and Theresa Gavarone, with 28.9 percent.

Incumbent Marcy Kaptur was running unopposed.

How Wood County voted

Of Wood County’s 92,192 registered voters, 17,260 (18.7%) cast ballots in the primary election.

Since the Supreme Court of Ohio invalidated the Ohio General Assembly district plan, the offices of Ohio House, Ohio Senate and State Central Committee did not appear on the May 3 Primary Election ballot.
