Bowling Green Police Division charged a man with theft, criminal trespassing and walking in a roadway after he reportedly tried to hide shoplifted items under an overpass.

An officer on patrol around midnight on Oct. 18, on East Wooster Street at the Interstate 75 overpass, observed a man dressed all in black walking in the roadway on the opposite side from the sidewalk. The man, Shan Sneyd, 32, of Toledo, had a bookbag and his face was covered with a bandana.

The officer turned around but could no longer see the man on the overpass. The officer turned on his vehicle’s overhead lights and used the spotlight to search for the man. The man then appeared from under the bridge.

Sneyd had reportedly jumped over the barrier wall of the overpass, criminally trespassing on ODOT property. According to the police report, he was trying to conceal the bag of items he had reportedly shoplifted from Meijer.

When he came up from under the bridge, Sneyd reportedly had an object in his hand that police later determined was a flashlight. Upon seeing the man with something in his hand, the BG officer drew his firearm, told the man not to move, and asked for backup.

The man was taken into custody. A search turned up two large knives in a holster on his waistband, and in a holster on the outside of his pants.

As other officers arrived on the scene, the bookbag was located on the other side of the overpass wall. The book bag reportedly contained 15 hygiene items valued at $189.75 that had allegedly been stolen from Meijer.

After being arrested, Sneyd told police he was experiencing an allergic reaction, so the fire division was called and he was transported to Wood County Hospital for a medical condition. He was later taken to Wood County Jail.
