A Detroit man was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing a vehicle from the Cronin Buick dealership on North Main Street in Bowling Green.
An Ohio State Patrol trooper noticed a Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped in the roadway on North Main Street near Industrial Drive at 1:12 a.m. The Durango did not have its tail lights on, according to the patrol.
The vehicles continued northbound and the trooper attempted a traffic stop near North Main Street and Newton Road. Upon activating his overhead lights, both vehicles began to slow down like they were going to stop, but then both vehicles sped off and a pursuit ensued with the Durango.
During the pursuit, the trooper and the Durango passed by the Jeep as they were northbound on Ohio 25. The pursuit was terminated south of Ohio 582 because of excessive speed and because the driver of the Durango had turned off all his lights.
After terminating the pursuit, the trooper turned around and headed south on Route 25 to look for the Jeep. The trooper located the Jeep, which then made a U-turn to head back south on Route 25.
The trooper caught up to the Jeep, which then turned onto Sugar Ridge Road and began to flee from the trooper. The pursuit continued onto Mercer Road, Route 582, Interstate 75 northbound and onto Interstate 475.
Stop sticks were deployed and successful north of the Airport Highway interchange on I-475. The Jeep continued to drive with at least one flat tire onto eastbound I-475 where it exited and went south on Corey Road.
The Jeep then drove into a private yard and the driver reportedly fled on foot. The trooper was able to apprehend Angelo Martez Brooks Jr., 23, of Detroit, with the assistance of Sylvania Township Police officers who arrived on scene.
Brooks was charged in Bowling Green Municipal Court with failure to comply with the signal of a police officer (third degree felony), possession of drug paraphernalia (minor misdemeanor) and driving with no operator’s license (unclassified misdemeanor). Brooks was incarcerated at the Wood County Jail.
It was later confirmed that the Jeep had been stolen from the Cronin Buick dealership, according to the patrol.
