Two BGPD cruisers damaged when struck during traffic stop on icy road

Two Bowling Green Police Division cruisers were damaged Saturday (2/17) during a traffic stop.

The two police SUVs were stopped with their emergency lights activated, around 9:30 a.m., in the northbound lane of Campbell Hill Road near the exit to Carter Park. A 17-year-old driver of a Chrysler Sebring traveling northbound was attempting to slow as approaching the stopped cruisers. According to the crash report, the Sebring began sliding on the ice and struck the rear of one cruiser, pushing it into the rear of the other cruiser.

No one was injured. The police cruisers, a 2020 Ford Explorer and a 2023 Ford Explorer, both suffered minor damage.

The driver of the Sebring was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control of the vehicle.
