The Wood County Historical Center & Museum is pleased to be the recipient of two new wheelchairs, courtesy of BG Manor and BG Care Center. The donation will be presented to the Historical Center on Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m., by Jim Miller, Business Development Coordinator for the organization.
“BG Manor and BG Care Center is a family-owned company that just wants to give back to the community,” said Miller. The Bowling Green facilities offer short-term and long-term care in the Bowling Green area, and have done so for over 40 years. The Historical Center was originally the County Infirmary, a pre-cursor to the nursing homes and rehabilitation centers of today, so this partnership is a good fit.
The wheelchairs will be available to any visiting guest at the Wood County Historical Center and Museum, located at 13660 County Home Road in Bowling Green. Since the completion of the “Step Up” Accessibility Capital Project in 2017, the museum is now fully accessible with an elevator, four improved restrooms, and handicap parking. This improvement on the 150-year old building has come with a great response from the community, as seen by an increase in attendance and many positive comments.
“Visitors sometimes need assistance in order to relax and enjoy the experience without concerns of mobility,” according the museum’s Education Coordinator, Michael McMaster, who conducts many of the tours. “Since we are open this winter, through the week, they will soon be put to good use.”
The Museum is open for self-guided tours Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., with a primary exhibit Over There! Send Word, the Wood County Boys are Coming! depicting WWI’s impact on Wood County. Beginning Feb. 1, a new exhibit, The Return to Normalcy: A Life of Leisure in Wood County, will open and public hours will include weekends 1-4 p.m.
