Virginia C. Johnson, 103, of Perrysburg, Ohio and formerly of Bowling Green, passed away August 22, 2023. She was born May 22, 1920 the youngest of 5 children, in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late George and Mary Bertha Miller.
Ginny married Willis Adelbert Wilson on June 27, 1944 and together they had three sons Bruce Wilson, Frederick Wilson and Kenneth Wilson. Willis preceded her in death January 4, 1968. She married Lester Johnson on February 20, 1970 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1988.
Ginny graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1937. In 1938 she was crowned princess of the 1st Rhododendron Festival in Webster, West Virginia where she represented the four northern counties of West Virginia. She worked as a secretary to a civil engineer before the family moved to Grand Rapids, Ohio in 1964. Ginny then worked as a secretary for Comptroller at Daybrook-Ottawa in Bowling Green for many years.
After her first husband, Bill died, she married Lester and moved to Genoa to live on a farm. She loved the farm life and enjoyed gardening and raising rabbits and ponies. She enjoyed sewing and made a lot of her clothes and bed spreads for some of her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and also volunteered at several nursing homes in Bowling Green and Genoa as well as Little Sisters of the Poor, Wood County Hospital and St. Charles Hospital. Ginny was a Eucharist minister and Lecter for St. Aloysius Church and St. Clare Commons where she lived for the past several years.
She is survived by her son Frederick (Barb) Wilson of Bowling Green, Ohio, daughter-in-law Debbie Wilson of Bowling Green, Ohio, step-daughter Nancy (Brian) Chaney of Port Charlotte, Florida, grandchildren Christine Mockensturm (George Goodrich) of Bowling Green, Lisa (Brett) Nowery of Spring Arbor, Michigan, Jake (Annie) Wilson of Bowling Green, Rick (Brittany) Wilson of Bowling Green, Matthew Panning of Jenks, Oklahoma and Amy (Randy) Teders of Findlay, Ohio and great- grandchildren Alissa, Ashley and Abigail Mockensturm, Bella and Logan Nowery, Kolton Spangenberg, Casey and Crew Wilson, Jacob Panning and Luke, Isaac and Madison Teders as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Willis, second husband Lester, and sons Bruce Wilson and Kenneth Wilson and siblings Robert Miller, Edward Miller, Katherine Miller and Bertha Miller.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Father Tom McQuillen will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Ohio. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 10:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
