From VISIT BG OHIO
GAS Disc Golf has received a $4,000 2023 Tourism Grant from Visit BG Ohio to fund renovations to the Carter Park Disc Golf Course.
Renovations include the addition of landscaping boulders, new foliage / beds, the installation of raised baskets on 2 holes, and the addition of two entirely new holes.
“The proposed renovations are intended to make the course more visually appealing with natural obstructions and add new challenges, drawing the attention of passersby on Campbell Hill Road and piquing curiosity of those who may be interested in disc golf,” said Cody Wright, president of GAS Disc Golf. “Due to its proximity to BGSU and I-75, the Carter Park Disc Golf Course is one of the more highly trafficked courses in the region, and a newly renovated course will make Carter Park—and Bowling Green—a destination for all disc golfers in the region.”
GAS Disc Golf reports that a 2022 Tournament drew 84 people from within a 100-mile radius to Bowling Green, and that biweekly league play draws more than 25 people per night on average. By renovating an already- popular course, GAS Disc Golf hopes to drive their exponential growth and draw in even more of the thousands of disc golf players in Northwest and Central Ohio, as well as Southeast Michigan.
The purpose of the Visit BG Ohio Tourism Grant is to promote eligible tourism activities within the City of Bowling Green. The program provides financial support for capital projects, events, and activities that generate publicity and substantially increase travel (overnight stays or day visits) to the City of Bowling Green for reasons of recreation or leisure. Visit BG Ohio Tourism Grants are generated by the city’s share of sales taxes collected on overnight stays within Bowling Green.
Applications for 2025 Tourism Grants will be due in the third quarter of 2024.
