Wallace A. Gonyer, Jr. (78) passed away May 2, 2018 at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green, OH. Wally, as he was known to all, was born January 29, 1940 in Rudolph, OH to Wallace A. & Mary E. Gonyer (Massey).
Wally was a 1958 graduate of Westwood High School. Wally worked for the Wood County Highway Department for 32 years, building roads in the summer and plowing snow in the winter. After he retired, Wally worked for Greenline hauling green beans, and then for Wood County Hospital as a shuttle bus driver. Wally loved telling anyone that would listen stories about his time driving all types of vehicles. Wally was a man of service, and was a volunteer EMT and firefighter for Weston EMS and Fire Department. Wally served at one time as chaplain of the fire department, and later as chief of the Wood County Emergency Management Agency’s EMS, as well as on the board of the Wood County Red Cross. Wally also was a member of Weston Village Council, served as Mayor of Weston, and was a lay speaker for the Methodist church. Wally was a 32nd degree mason, and was a member of Weston Lodge No. 560, North Baltimore Lodge No. 561, and Zenobia Shrine Temple and the Wood County Shrine Club. Wally served the masonic bodies faithfully as a master of the lodge three times, and as president and treasurer of the Wood County Shrine Club. Wally was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green.
Wally married Carla S. Biggins on March 23, 1985, and they had a loving marriage of 33 years. Wally is survived by Carla, his son Ardy (Megan), Bowling Green, and his sister Roseann (Gary) Barger, Springfield, OH. Wally was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 & 5:00-7:00 PM, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 W. Wooster St., P.O Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Wally’s Celebration of Life Service will be on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the St. Marks Lutheran Church, 315 S. College Dr., Bowling Green, Ohio 43402 with Pastor Melanie Haack will be officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 PM in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Wally’s name to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
