Wayne Oberley passed away January 7th, 2022. He was born at home March 11, 1932 in Weston Ohio. He was married to Lucy Oberley in 1972 and they shared over 40 loving and devoted years together. She passed away in 2005.
His parents Carl and Lily (Mossbarger) Oberley preceded him in death as well as his brother Dorcie. He is survived by sisters Linda Parker of Myrtle Beach, SC and Marie Ann Mathewson of Vancouver, WA. He cherished his three daughters: Shiela (Tom) Bell of Cecilia Ky, Ontha Oberley of BG and Lisa (Patrick) Dickerson of Chestertown, MD. Grandpa Wayne had great love for his grand-children: Kadi Peery (John), Charlene Wilson (Domonic), Nathan Baker (Abigail) and Joseph Travis. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Elijah, Emma, Reis and Charlie.
He is also leaving behind a friend for life, Tid Hannahs. They met in SF at the docks before departing to war in Korea, only to find themselves assigned to the same unit once they arrived. Tid and his wife JoAnn have been family friends for 70 years.
Wayne was a kind and humorous man that loved life to its fullest. He was sports minded and athletic. In high school he was captain of the basketball team and played baseball. He became a decent golfer, an exceptional bowler (300 games and Hall of Famer) and killer at the poker table. Competition was the draw. He loved to teach young ones their arithmetic through card playing!
Wayne was quick to tease and could spin a great story. He loved to tell of the hunting and fishing trips with the guys, in his colorful way.
His working days were with Daybrook Ottawa for 25 years, continuing as a foreman with the Weaver family businesses until his retirement.
The last few years he lived at BG Manor where he gained friends and admiration. The staff and residents became his family too. He warmed their hearts and they warmed his. Wayne’s puzzle room was a nice gathering space to meet and share. He was always one to create a social circle.
Wayne was a member of Village View Church of Christ, a deacon of the church and served on the leadership team.
