A woman with three children in her car was cited by Bowling Green Police after she reportedly caused an injury accident on Wednesday around 6 p.m.
Police responded to the crash on West Poe Road near the Wood County Fairgrounds to find a westbound Chrysler that ran into the back of a Ram truck sitting at a red light. The Ram truck struck a GMC truck also waiting at the light.
The woman driving the Chrysler reportedly told police she was distracted by assisting two children in her car with food picked up at Burger King.
At the time of the crash, the 8-year-old in the car was not wearing a seatbelt, the 5-year-old was not in a booster seat and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and an 11-month-old was in a forward-facing car seat that should have been rear-facing.
The driver reportedly told police that the seatbelts weren’t functioning where the children were sitting. Two of the children were transported to Wood County Hospital for possible injuries. The mother was taken to the hospital, where it was determined she had three fractures in her right foot.
The mother was cited for failure to keep assured clear distance, failure to use proper child restraint systems, and endangering children.
