Wood County Dog Shelter staff to begin door-to-door dog license enforcement checks in June

The Wood County Dog Shelter will be performing door-to-door dog license enforcement checks throughout Wood County from June through November. This program helps to identify unregistered and unlicensed dogs within Wood County, informs the public about Ohio dog license and registration laws, and facilitates the registration and licensing of dogs.

Staff will begin the door-to-door checks in the northern part of the county.

The Ohio Revised Code requires the owner, keeper, or harborer of a dog more than 3 months of age to register and license the dog with the county auditor of which the dog resides.

If the registration is not renewed during the statewide license renewal period of Dec. 1 through Jan. 31, or if a license is not obtained within 30 days after acquiring a dog, a penalty will be assessed in an amount equal to a one-year registration fee.

For Wood County residents, a one-year dog license costs $14 ($28 with penalty), a three-year license is $42 ($56 with penalty), a kennel license is $70 ($140 with penalty), and a permanent license is $140 ($154 with penalty).

To purchase a dog license, contact the Wood County Dog Shelter at 419-354-9242, or visit the county’s website at https://www.co.wood.oh.us/dogshelter/licenses.
