Wood County has 5 more COVID deaths in the past day

Wood County saw five more COVID-19 deaths in the past day. A total of 87 people in the county have now died because of the virus.

Wood County is up to 2,068 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Friday, Oct. 2, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 66 more cases since Thursday.

As of today there are 156 active cases in the county, which is one more than on Wednesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

Of the total 2,068 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 102, with the median age of 31.

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.

A total of 169 Wood County residents have been hospitalized for the virus since March.

Of the 87 who have died, three were in their 50s, nine were in their 60s, 24 in their 70s, 36 in their 80s, and 15 in their 90s. Of the deaths, 49 have been females, and 38 have been males.

Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there were 13 areas in the county with active cases.

The Bowling Green ZIP codes areas had 121-125 active cases this week.

The Perrysburg area had between 16 and 20 cases, and the Rossford area. Areas with 1 to 5 cases each included Bradner, Cygnet, Deshler, Fostoria, Millbury, North Baltimore, Northwood, Portage, Walbridge and Weston.

Of the total 2,068 cases in Wood County, at least 350 have been in long-term care facilities – 211 were residents and 139 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday. 

The following facilities have had cases, as of Sept. 30:

  • SKLD Perrysburg: 50 residents, 9 staff.
  • Kingston Residence of Perrysburg: 44 residents, 19 staff.
  • Kingston Rehabilitation of Perrysburg: 11 residents, 31 staff.
  • The Manor at Perrysburg: 18 residents, 7 staff.
  • Heartland of Perrysburg: 28 residents, 15 staff.
  • Otterbein Perrysburg: 6 residents, 18 staff.
  • Otterbein Pemberville: 3 residents, 8 staff.
  • Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green: 3 residents, 4 staff.
  • St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 1 resident, 5 staff.
  • Grand Rapids Care Center: 1 resident, 0 staff.
  • Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore: 45 residents, 19 staff.
  • Brookdale, Bowling Green: 0 residents, 1 staff.
  • Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 1 resident, 1 staff.
  • Wood Haven Health Care: 0 residents, 2 staff.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 52 of Wood County’s 87 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.

As of cases reported in K-12 schools during the week of Sept. 21, Otsego reported two staff tested positive, Penta Career Center reported two students, Perrysburg reported one student and one staff, and Wood Lane reported one staff member tested positive.
