Wood County reported 10 more deaths due to COVID-19, with those deaths occurring over the past 10 days. That brings the total deaths from COVID in the county to 130, with 22 being recorded so far this month.
The county is now up to 7,006 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Wednesday, Dec. 16, update from the Wood County Health Department. That’s 83 more cases than on Tuesday.
The number of active COVID cases in the county is now 409, which is 64 fewer than on Tuesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 403 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with four more being hospitalized since Tuesday.
The county has recorded a total of 130 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, three were in their 50s, 13 were in their 60s, 28 in their 70s, 52 in their 80s, and 30 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 7,006 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 3,637 were female, and 3,369 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 26 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again has the most this week, with 116-120 active cases. Next is Bowling Green, with 106-110 active cases.
Northwood is the next highest with 31-35 active cases. North Baltimore, Pemberville, Rossford and Walbridge each have 11-15 cases.
Areas with 6-10 cases each include Bloomdale, Bradner, Cygnet, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Luckey, Millbury, Portage and Wayne.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Custar, Deshler, Dunbridge, Genoa, Jerry City, Risingsun, Rudolph, Tontogany and Weston.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Dec. 7) in the county included 105 students and 24 staff:
- All Saints Catholic School: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Bowling Green City Schools: 8 students, 2 staff.
- Eastwood: 11 students, 2 staff.
- Elmwood: 4 students, 2 staff.
- Lake: 4 students, 1 staff.
- Montessori School in BG: 1 student, 1 staff.
- North Baltimore: 1 student, 2 staff.
- Northwood: 5 students, 5 staff.
- Otsego: 7 students, 1 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 12 students, 0 staff.
- Perrysburg: 46 students, 0 staff.
- Rossford: 4 students, 4 staff.
- St. Aloysius: 1 students, 2 staff.
- St. Rose Preschool: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Wood County ESC, 0 students, 1 staff.
Of the total 7,006 cases in Wood County, at least 736 have been in long-term care facilities – 412 were residents and 324 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 81 of Wood County’s 130 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
