Wood County recorded 106 more cases and one more death from COVID in the past day. The county is now up to 8,197 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Wednesday, Dec. 30, update from the Wood County Health Department.
The number of active COVID cases in the county is now 347, which is 28 more than on Tuesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 451 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with three more being hospitalized since Tuesday.
The county has recorded a total of 145 deaths from COVID, with one more in the past day. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, four were in their 50s, 14 were in their 60s, 29 in their 70s, 60 in their 80s, and 34 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 8,091 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 4,257 were female, and 3,939 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 25 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again has the most this week, with 106-110 active cases. Next is Bowling Green, with 86-90 active cases.
Northwood and Rossford are the next highest with 16-20 active cases each. North Baltimore, Walbridge and Wayne each have 11-15 cases.
Areas with 6-10 cases each include Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Millbury and Weston.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Bloomdale, Bradner, Cygnet, Deshler, Haskins, Hoytville, Jerry City, Luckey, Milton Center, Pemberville, Portage, Risingsun, Rudolph and Tontogany.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Dec. 21) in the county included 10 students and 5 staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 2 students, 1 staff.
- Elmwood: 4 students, 1 staff.
- Rossford: 2 students, 0 staff.
- St. Aloysius: 2 students, 3 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 790 have been in long-term care facilities – 428 were residents and 362 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 101 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
