Wood County reports 113 new COVID cases since Monday

Wood County is now up to 12,699 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since last March, according to the Thursday, April 15, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 113 new cases since the last report on Monday, April 12.

The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 186, which is 10 more than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

There have been no new deaths from COVID reported since Monday. Of the total 214 deaths in Wood County, one was in her 20s, one was in his 30s, three were in their 40s, eight were in their 50s, 19 were in their 60s, 53 in their 70s, 80 in their 80s, and 47 in their 90s, and two in their 100s. 

A total of 620 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since last March, with eight more being hospitalized since Monday. 

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.

As of today, a total of 55,087 local residents have gotten at least their first dose of a COVID vaccine. That is 42.11% of the county population.

Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 10 areas in the county with active cases.

The Perrysburg ZIP code area has the most active cases with 105. The Bowling Green ZIP code area has the next highest number this week, having 59 active cases. North Baltimore is next with 21 cases, followed by Rossford with 20, and BGSU with 20. 

The Northwood ZIP code area has 16 active cases, Walbridge has 14, Bradner has 8, Pemberville has 6, and Weston has 5.

The latest numbers reported for schools in the county included 24 students and no staff: 

  • Bowling Green City Schools: 4 students, 0 staff.
  • Eastwood: 3 students, 0 staff.
  • Elmwood: 1 student, 0 staff.
  • Lake: 1 student, 0 staff.
  • Penta Career Center: 5 students, 0 staff.
  • Perrysburg: 6 students, 0 staff.
  • Rossford: 4 students, 0 staff.

Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 927 have been in long-term care facilities. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday.
