Wood County reports 34 new COVID cases since Monday

Wood County is now up to 13,197 confirmed and probable cases from COVID-19 since last March, according to the Thursday, May 20, update from the Wood County Health Department. 

That is 34 new cases since the last report on Monday, May 17.

The county has recorded a total of 221 deaths from COVID, with no new deaths since Monday.

A total of 654 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since last March, with two more being hospitalized since Monday. 

The county currently has 79 cases per 100,000 residents.

As of Monday, a total of 63,513 local residents have gotten at least their first dose of a COVID vaccine. That is 48.55% of the county population. 

Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are five areas in the county with active cases.

The Bowling Green ZIP code area has the most active cases with 30. The Perrysburg ZIP code area has the next highest number this week, having 27 active cases. Northwood is next with 8, followed by Walbridge with 7, and Rossford with 5.

The latest COVID numbers reported for schools in the county included 19 students and no staff: 

  • Bowling Green City Schools: 8 students.
  • Eastwood: 2 students.
  • Northwood: 3 students.
  • Otsego: 1 student.
  • Penta Career Center: 1 student.
  • Perrysburg: 4 students.

One long-term care facility in Wood County, Otterbein Perrysburg, reported one new COVID case involving a resident.
