Wood County reports 95 new cases and 1 more death due to COVID since Thursday

Wood County is now up to 12,014 confirmed and probable cases and 210 deaths from COVID-19 since last March, according to the Monday, March 22, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 95 new cases and one more death since the last report on Thursday, March 18.

The number of total COVID vaccines started in Wood County as of today was 34,168 – which is 26.12% of the county’s population.

The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 94, which is two fewer than on Thursday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

Of the total 210 deaths in Wood County, one was in her 20s, one was in his 30s, three were in their 40s, seven were in their 50s, 19 were in their 60s, 52 in their 70s, 78 in their 80s, and 47 in their 90s, and two in their 100s. 

A total of 590 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since last March, with five more being hospitalized since Thursday. 

Of the total 12,014 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 38. Of those testing positive, 6,287 were female, and 5,727 were male. 

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.

Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 19 areas in the county with active cases.

The Bowling Green ZIP code area had the most last week, with 40-35 active cases, followed by Perrysburg with 26-30 cases. 

Areas with 1-5 cases each included Cygnet, Deshler, Fostoria, Jerry City, Luckey, Millbury, North Baltimore, Northwood, Pemberville, Portage, Risingsun, Rossford, Rudolph, Tontogany, Walbridge, Wayne and Weston.

The latest numbers reported for schools (week of March 8) in the county included 22 students and 9 staff: 

  • Bowling Green City Schools: 6 students, 0 staff.
  • BG Christian Academy: 8 students, 5 staff.
  • Elmwood: 3 students, 2 staff
  • Rossford: 4 students, 1 staff.
  • Westside Montessori/Perrysburg Preschool: 1 student, 0 staff.
  • Wood County ESC: 0 students, 1 staff.

Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 917 have been in long-term care facilities. The cases recorded since last March include 474 residents and 443 staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday.
