The Wood County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for two counts of kidnapping on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the village of Cygnet.
Deputies stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation around 12:20 p.m., and found the driver, Langston Campbell, 27, of Cincinnati, and a female passenger in the back seat of the vehicle.
The sergeant and a new patrol deputy, who was in training, separated the female from the driver. They learned that the 29-year-old female had been reported missing on Jan. 10, by her mother in San Bernardino, California. While interviewing the woman during the traffic stop, the deputies determined that she and her 2-year-old son had been kidnapped and held against their will in Detroit as well as in Port Huron, Michigan.
Campbell was arrested on two counts of kidnapping and booked into the Wood County Jail. Detectives from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office transported the female to Port Huron, and with assistance from the St. Clair County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Office, they secured the child. The 2-year-old, who was reportedly in the care of Campbell’s mother, was reunited with his mother.
The investigation is continuing with additional charges pending.
