Wood County is now up to 10,839 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Monday, Feb. 1, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 189 more cases than last Thursday.
The number of doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of today is 10,393 – which is 7.94% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 238, which is 43 fewer than on Thursday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 528 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with 10 more being hospitalized since Thursday.
The county has recorded a total of 158 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, five were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 32 in their 70s, 62 in their 80s, and 38 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 10,839 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,654 were female, and 5,185 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 21 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again had the most last week, with 91-95 active cases. Next was Bowling Green, with 86-90 active cases.
Northwood was the next highest with 26-30 active cases, followed by Rossford with 11-15. Luckey, Millbury, North Baltimore, Pemberville and Weston each had 6-10 active cases.
Areas with 1-5 cases each included Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar, Cygnet, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Lemoyne, Rudolph, Stony Ridge, Walbridge and Wayne.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Jan. 18) in the county included 49 students and 20 staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 9 students, 1 staff.
- Eastwood: 4 students, 2 staff.
- Elmwood: 2 students, 3 staff.
- Lake: 1 student, 0 staff.
- North Baltimore: 0 students, 2 staff.
- Northwood: 3 students, 0 staff.
- Otsego: 4 students, 1 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 3 students, 3 staff.
- Perrysburg: 19 students, 3 staff.
- Rossford: 3 students, 2 staff.
- Wood County ESC: 1 student, 3 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 852 have been in long-term care facilities – 447 were residents and 405 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 103 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
