Wood County up to 1,163 cases and 60 deaths from COVID since March

Wood County has 1,163 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Tuesday, Aug. 18, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is an increase of nine cases since Monday.

A total of 60 county residents have died since March, with two deaths occurring this week. 

As of today there are 88 active cases in the county, which is two fewer than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

Of the total 1,163 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 102, with the median age of 42. The number of females is 622, and males is 541.

A total of 114 Wood County residents have been hospitalized for the virus since March – three more than last Friday.

Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by Zip Code. As of Aug. 12, there were 17 areas in the county with active cases.

The Perrysburg area had between 46 and 50 active cases, and the Bowling Green and Northwood areas each had between 11 and 15 active cases. The Millbury and North Baltimore areas each had 6 to 10 cases.

Areas with 1 to 5 cases each include Bradner, Cygnet, Fostoria, Jerry City, Pemberville, Portage, Risingsun, Rossford, Tontogany, Walbridge, Wayne and Weston.

Of the 60 who have died, one was in their 50s, seven were in their 60s, 15 in their 70s, 26 in their 80s, and 11 in their 90s. Of the deaths, 32 have been females, and 28 have been males.

Of the total 1,163 cases in Wood County, at least 267 have been in long-term care facilities – 168 were residents and 99 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

  • Kingston Residence of Perrysburg: 44 residents, 19 staff.
  • Kingston Rehabilitation of Perrysburg: 11 residents, 27 staff.
  • The Manor at Perrysburg: 18 residents, 7 staff.
  • Heartland of Perrysburg: 23 residents, 1 staff.
  • Otterbein Perrysburg: 5 residents, 18 staff.
  • Otterbein Pemberville: 3 residents, 5 staff.
  • Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green: 1 resident, 3 staff.
  • St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 1 resident, 0 staff.
  • Grand Rapids Care Center: 1 resident, 0 staff.
  • Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore: 11 residents, 9 staff.
  • Brookdale, Bowling Green: 0 residents, 1 staff.
  • Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 1 resident, 1 staff.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 47 of Wood County’s 60 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
