Wood County is now up to 9,849 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Friday, Jan. 15, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 95 more cases than on Thursday.
The number of first doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of Thursday was 4,995 – which is 3.82% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 396, which is 12 fewer than on Thursday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 496 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with two more being hospitalized since Thursday.
The county has recorded a total of 154 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, four were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 31 in their 70s, 61 in their 80s, and 37 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 9,849 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,144 were female, and 4,705 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 24 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again has the most this week, with 146-150 active cases. Next is Bowling Green, with 111-115 active cases.
Northwood is the next highest with 31-35 active cases each, followed by Rossford with 21-25 active cases, and Walbridge with 16-20. Cygnet and North Baltimore each have 11-15 active cases.
Areas with 6-10 cases each include Haskins, Luckey, Pemberville, Wayne and Weston.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar, Deshler, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Jerry City, Millbury, Portage, Risingsun, Rudolph, and Tontogany.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Jan. 4) in the county included 39 students and 27 staff:
- All Saints Catholic: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Bowling Green City Schools: 3 students, 8 staff.
- Eastwood: 3 students, 2 staff.
- Elmwood: 8 students, 3 staff.
- Lake: 8 students, 1 staff.
- Northwood: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Otsego: 7 students, 4 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 5 students, 5 staff.
- Perrysburg: No numbers available.
- Rossford: 4 students, 2 staff.
- St. Rose: 0 students, 1 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 826 have been in long-term care facilities – 441 were residents and 385 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.
