On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Peristyle Theater, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras (TSYO) present their first concert of the season that is free and open to the public thanks to a generous gift from Joseph and Judith Conda.

“We are grateful for the Condas’ gift to our youth orchestra programs and are very excited to present our first concert of the season,” says Joan Weiler, Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras Coordinator.

“Their generosity gives us the opportunity to serve more students in coming generations and expand our musical offerings in the community.”
The TSYO is composed of three orchestras, the Concert Strings, Symphonic Orchestra, and Philharmonic Orchestra, each performing three pieces on Sunday afternoon’s program.

TSYO Solo Competition winners, including violinist Sarah Munson of Bowling Green, will perform at 3:30 p.m, to kick-off the program. Other winners are LyAnn Samkari (violin), Evan McCord (marimba), and Solim Kim (flute).

Under the direction of conductors Betsy Cranston and Kathleen Schnerer, the TSYO Concert Strings will perform the concert with del Borgo’s Concertino in G, Gruselle’s arrangement of Macleod’s “Over the Sea to Skye,” and Dackow’s arrangement of Mozart’s Symphony No. 15 Finale.

The TSYO Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Matthew Forte will perform Arturo Márquez’s “Conga del Fuego Nuevo,” Elgar’s “Nimrod,” and Leidig’s arrangement of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 Finale.

To close the program, the TSYO Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Wasim Hawary will perform Kabalevsky’s Overture to “Colas Breugnon,” Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra, and conclude with Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain.

The Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras present four performances each year. Upcoming performances include the TSYO’s Concert II on Feb. 9; the TSYO’s annual Side by Side concert on March 22; and the TSYO Pops concert on May 10.
