Driver cited after dump truck strikes person using wheelchair in downtown crosswalk

A person using a motorized wheelchair was struck by a dump truck in a downtown crosswalk on Wednesday (June 25) around 3:05 p.m. The victim sustained a minor scrape to his elbow and was not transported to the hospital.

The driver of the dump truck, Mark Strayer, 69, of Waterville, was cited for failure to yield in a crosswalk.

According to the Bowling Green Police Division report, the driver was at the stoplight at West Wooster Street and Main Street, waiting to turn right. The man using the wheelchair was at the crosswalk waiting to cross South Main Street at Wooster Street.

When the traffic light turned green, the driver began turning and entered the crosswalk. The truck collided with the wheelchair, knocking it over. The wheelchair landed on top of the victim.

According to the report, the driver immediately stopped and assisted the victim.
