From BOWLING GREEN HIGH SCHOOL
The Bowling Green Exchange Club and Bowling Green High School have announced that Sarah Mathey is the October 2025 “Student of the Month.” Mathey is a senior at Bowling Green High School and will graduate on May 24, 2026. She is the daughter of Sujin Lee and Shawn Mathey.
Mathey’s school honors and activities include membership in the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and recognition as an AP Scholar with Honor. She is a four-year varsity tennis player, serving as a two-year team captain, and has earned both First Team and Second Team All-League honors, while helping lead her team to three Northern Lakes League championships. Mathey has also received the Coaches Award and the Most Improved Athlete Award. She is active in the Spanish Club, serving as a social media and publicity officer, and is a dedicated member of the Student Activities Board and GSA club. Additionally, she is a fine arts student and 2024 Congressional Art Competition qualifier.
Beyond school, Mathey has given back to her community through volunteer work, including serving as a youth arts coordinator for the Black Swamp Arts Festival, a youth activities crew member for Firefly Nights, and as a youth community service supervisor for the Harvard SPARK Project. She also works as a youth tennis coach with Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, helping young athletes learn the fundamentals of the sport. In her free time, Mathey is employed as a server at Call of the Canyon Café.
Mathey holds a GPA of 4.4, has a composite ACT score of 30, ranks second in her graduating class, ,and was selected as a Buckeye Girls State delegate, where she was elected county treasurer. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year university to pursue studies in business and a minor in psychology.
