One of the community’s longtime favorite art exhibitions, “Better Than Ever,” opened Monday at the Wood County Senior Center.

Hosted by the Bowling Green Arts Council (BGAC) and the Wood County Committee on Aging (WCCOA), the exhibit showcases regional artists age 50 and older. This year there are 21 artists showing 47 pieces that include photography, painting, collage, and fiber.

BGAC member Vicki Knauerhase has been entering the show for several years.

“It’s in a good location,” she said. “It’s easy to be seen. And it’s nice to see people in this phase of life being recognized for doing something. It seems like a long time ago older people weren’t considered as a still vibrant part of the community. They were just old people. It’s especially important since I think old people feel younger nowadays. This shows we’re still part of what’s happening and what’s going on.”

Rev. Rose Russell, a participant in the art show, enjoyed seeing the variety of work.

Newly elected president of the BGAC Mary Dennis, said this show is an example of community organizations working together.

“I love that we have some new artists who have entered the show this year that we haven’t seen in the past,” she said. “And I love the fact that the Senior Center is so inviting and welcoming to us. I like that we’re highlighting the older generation of folks in our community, giving people the chance to present their artwork in a community art show.”

“Reflections of Autumn,” by Kelley L. Chalfant won the popular choice award. The exhibit will be available for viewing during regular hours at the Senior Center through Feb. 27.
