Robert J. Hurt, 86, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away November 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born on October 12, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio. He married Barbara Shaffer on January 29, 1966 and she survives.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Lybarger-Grimm Post #441 in Tontogany, Ohio. He worked as a service repairman for Columbus Gas for 32 years before his retirement where he had served as president of UWUA Local #349. Robert was an avid golfer, was president of the Men’s Club at Spuyten Duyal Golf Course, and chaired the golf tournament for the American Legion Department of Ohio and the Golf Commission from 1970 to 2014. He was an Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fan where he actually got to see the Browns win. Robert loved to bowl, to cook, and work in his garden and he will be greatly missed by his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara; daughters: Tamra Frank and Patricia Cory both of Bowling Green; Scott (Janet) of New Albany, Ohio; Robert Hurt of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren: Patrick Davis, Brenson & Kylie Gonzales; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren with one due in late December. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa.
Visitation for Robert will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of his funeral service at 12:00 PM in the Wright-Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second Street, Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522. Interment will immediately follow in Tontogany Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Robert’s honor may be gifted to the Cocoon Shelter or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
