Three members of Boy Scout Troop 422 which meets at Conneaut School will receive their Eagle Scout honors in a ceremony Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Friends are welcome to attend.
John Johnston:
John’s project was landscaping two areas by the Therapy pool at Wood Lane School. It including clearing and removing overgrown bushes and brush, and designing and planting native plants, grasses, bushes and ground cover.
John graduated from Bowling Green High School in May, where he played men’s varsity tennis. He also played string bass for BGHS chestra and served as Senior Patrol leader for the troop for a year. Junior year he and fellow troop members hiked at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. John is currently a freshman honors student at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to scouting, his interests include music, basketball and art. He is the son of Rachelle and Dave Johnston of Bowling Green.
Evan Sekerak:
Evan constructed a wooden raised bed prayer garden for St. Aloysius Catholic Church and School. In the spirit of Pope Francis’s Encyclical Laudato Si’ (Care for our Common Home), all of the plants are native to Wood County and are attractive to pollinators of the area.
Sekerak will graduate from Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School in May and will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. He is the son of Ed and Heather Sekerak of Bowling Green.
He performed in all four musicals in high school, while being Vice President of National Honor Society and competing on Stritch’s robotics & quiz bowl teams, as well as Lead Team for St. Aloysius’ Youth. He was also President of his City Council at Buckeye Boys last summer. In 2015, he backpacked for two weeks at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Ethan Deck:
Ethan is a sophomore at BGHS and coordinated a prayer garden at the First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green. The project consisted of arranging for the demolishing an existing concrete slab and replacing it with a stepping stone path. Along with the path, Deck provided landscaping and concrete benches. Deck hopes the garden will provide the community a place for reflection.
He is the son of Randy and Jodi Deck of Bowling Green.
He has been an active member of scouts for 9 years. Currently he is a member of the St. Aloysius Youth, Model UN, Band, and Orchestra. Future plans consist of finishing high school, staying involved in scouts, serve his country, and become a history teacher. Deck is also looking forward to a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this summer.
Their current scoutmaster is Brian Crites.
